2021 Team Outlooks: Carrier, Hive, DID

As 2021 kicked off with a blast across the entire digital asset space, technological advancement remains front-and-center in the minds of Elastos’ decentralized network of development teams. For the year ahead, as the imperatives of Decentralized Identification (DID), and data ownership rights continue to advance into the mainstream as increasingly critical issues affecting more and more humans across the world, Elastos’ industry-leading DID solution, Carrier network, and Hive decentralized storage service will only begin to receive further attention and use case potential. To prepare for the ecosystem’s most potent year yet, here’s what three Elastos development teams have in store for 2021:


The DID SDK team will be focused on upgrading and advancing Elastos’ proprietary DID solution with a three-pronged development strategy:

1) Standardization: After updating and building upon Elastos’ DID specifications, the team will canonicalize them into a set of standard specifications for DIDs, Verifiable Credentials, and DID Auth.

2) Integration: The team will then work to seamlessly integrate Elastos’ standardized DID specifications into all Elastos projects, and provide informational documentation for users and developers.

3) Research & Development: All the while, the team will continue innovating and improving Elastos’ DID solution through research initiatives, and will formulate new features to meet rising user-, enterprise-, and application-specific demands.

Carrier Team

To support various applications and technologies throughout the Elastos ecosystem, the Carrier Team will be working toward the following objectives:

  • Continue to advance a group message feature implementation, and release technical preview versions when it matures;
  • Set up and run a project for push notifications to enhance Carrier communication infrastructure;
  • In tandem with the ongoing upgrade of DID SDKs and the DID Sidechain, the team will implement a higher layer of Carrier SDK to support multi-device sign-in features from a single DID.
  • Implement a permission-less, peer-to-peer network to serve as a decentralized DNS (Domain Name System) and decentralized key/value storage in a supplementary role to the Carrier network’s permission-based, friend-to-friend infrastructure.
  • Continue improving upon both internal SDKs and the Carrier plugin used by Elastos Essentials (elastOS).

Hive Team

To support various applications in Elastos Essentials, fully integrate with the Filecoin ecosystem, and expand Hive 2.0’s decentralized Hive node network, the Hive Team will be developing and releasing a number of new features:

  • Enable users to restore Vault service using backup Vault data from Google Drive or a specified Hive node.
  • Allow users to migrate a specified Vault service from one Hive node to another.
  • Complete full integration with Filecoin to support Vault service data back-ups to both IPFS and Filecoin’s decentralized storage network.
  • Launch a Publish/Subscribe (Pub/Sub) service to provide instant event notifications for applications.
  • Enable Hive link sharing via anonymous scripting.
  • Implement local cache storage with a mini MongoDB database to provide a superior user experience with rapid response times and offline notifications.
  • Develop a Kademlia DHT network to connect all Hive nodes on a Layer-2 network that is fully supported by Vault services. Vault services in LAN networks will be accessible via the tunnel communication layer, and will be relayed via public Hive Nodes throughout the network.
  • Integrate ERC20 token support to allow for the development of economic incentives that encourage community users to deploy Hive nodes and provide both tunnel-relayed services and Vault services.
