Elastos, the blockchain platform dedicated to building a decentralized and secure internet, is excited to announce the launch of a new upgrade to its consensus mechanism. Bonded Proof of Stake (BPoS) will replace the former Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) as one of the three layers of the overall Elastic Consensus.
The BPoS consensus upgrade is ready to commence and will conclude upon block height 1405000, estimated to be around April 13th (UTC-0). This upgrade will bring new functionalities such as BPoS node registration/upgrade, stake-related transactions, and multi-signature transactions. All Elastos nodes are required to complete the upgrade by block height 1405000 or April 13, 2023 (UTC-0) to ensure compatibility and uninterrupted operations. In addition, users are advised to upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS 64-bit for improved security.
Please see the specific instructions on how to upgrade for each node type below:
- Main chain nodes (such as exchanges, mining pools, and BPoS validators, CR Council nodes, etc) should refer to the Node Upgrade for instructions.
- Elastos Identity Chain (EID) nodes, including the CR Council nodes, should refer to the EID Node Upgrade .
- Elastos Smart Contract Chain (ESC) nodes, including the CR Council nodes, should refer to the ESC Node Upgrade .
- Elastos Supernodes (the CR Council nodes) should refer to the Arbiter Node Upgrade .
After the upgrade concludes and the block height 1405000, the consensus will enter the transition phase. During the transition phase, DPoS will remain fully operational, and BPoS will be implemented , enabling the regular operation of DPoS while facilitating node registration and staking/voting on BPoS nodes. Both equity tokens for DPoS and BPoS will coexist during this period. In addition, BPoS will fully activate once at least 36 nodes attain 80,000 voting rights.
